Rincon Beach Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society
Pacific Sound formed in late 1999 when a group of dedicated singers, organized under the visionary direction of Mike McGee, decided to form a new a cappella chorus, affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society and dedicated to high-level performance quality. It worked!
Since that time Pacific Sound has staged countless shows and performances in our local region of Southern California, thrilling thousands of attendees and attracting hoards of fans. Our performances have taken us all over California and the Western US via barbershop harmony conventions and competitions, and our ambition has taken us internationally, performing in Russia in 2003 as a part of the St. Petersburg Barbershop Harmony Festival, and in Ireland in 2007 for the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers Festival and competition.
We are an auditioned chorus attracting men with previous singing experience who enjoy the challenge of being a part of a team with high standards, who enjoy the fun, friendship and camaraderie of other men and who enjoy improving their vocal and performance abilities. Each man reports that every rehearsal is like a vocal lesson. We finish our Monday night rehearsals excited about the vocal and visual progress we have made and enthused to come back next Monday night.
In addition to competitions, which are normally two per year, our performances occur in theaters and halls, as flash mobs on the street, as invited guests for banquets and company events, for living centers, in schools... We're small and nimble and travel easily and are always looking for an opportunity to perform and to share high-quality music for appreciative audiences.
We are constantly looking to add to our membership. If you are an experienced male singer, or know of anyone who is, you are encouraged to visit and sing with us on any Monday evening. We draw our enthusiastic singers from within a 100 mile radius of our Ventura meeting site. We typically rehearse at the Ventura Adult Continuing Education Center (VACE), 5200 Valentine Road, Suite 104. To see where we are this week, check out our Events page.
